Sali Tabacchi is an advertising and design studio. We believe in great ideas. We also believe that great ideas need to be well executed in order to really work. Our client services include visual identities, promotional campaigns, marketing materials, brainstorming sessions, editorial design and websites. Our founding partners, Melissa Agostino and Henry Tyminski, have years of top design experience in cosmopolitan Toronto and avant-garde Amsterdam. But enough about us, we really want to hear about you. |

Global Warming Our warming climate means future changes in how we all will live our lives. While most of these changes will be quite negative (extreme weather, Arctic shrinkage, rising sea levels, droughts, floods, etc.), here is something positive: tropical fruits and vegetables may soon be grown on Canadian soil. Sali Tabacchi forecasts a series of fictional food logos meant to open our eyes to these new possibilities. Both scary and delicious at the same time. |

Flour Petal Cakes Visual identity for specialty cake decorating company. One cup nostalgic, half a cup quirky, and a dash of cute. More to come. |

MND Motor Neurone Disease (MND, aka ALS) is a debilitating neurological condition that affects the nerves in the brain and spinal stem that control voluntary muscles. MND is fatal and has a prognosis of two to five years. There is no treatment or cure. A friend of Sali Tabacchi has MND. A bicycle ride from Amsterdam to London has been organized to raise funds for MND research. We cannot be there physically to be a part of the ride, but we will be in spirit: through a series of logos to inspire the team on the road. |

Variety of Variety Sali Tabacchi was profiled by Creatie, the largest, Dutch-language magazine published for the advertising and design industry in The Netherlands. In it, we share our variety of influences, our variety of projects and even our love of variety stores. Original Dutch article (PDF). A clumsy English translation. |

Ciao! Sali Tabacchi’s founding partners, Melissa Agostino and Henry Tyminski, answer questions about balance, corner shops and what’s tacky… What is Sali Tabacchi? Sali Tabacchi is an advertising and design studio. We develop idea-driven visual identities, promotional campaigns, marketing materials, publications, and interactive media. What is your background experience? Before founding Sali Tabacchi, we both began our careers in Toronto at the internationally recognized and award-winning Concrete Design. We then joined the team at Artmiks in Amsterdam to absorb the energy and playfulness of Dutch design. Valuable experience was gained at both studios working with notable clients such as Holt Renfrew, Azure Magazine, Elsevier, The PICNIC Festival, Malmberg Publishers, and more. How would you describe your creative partnership? We approach all projects as a collaboration because shared ideas make for stronger ideas. We bounce ideas off each other all of the time to see if they stick. Collaborating with clients is an important part of this process, as they bring experience and knowledge of their industry to the table. Your studio develops both advertising and design? Yes, we see the two as being closely integrated. Everything around us advertises something. Everything around us is also designed. In other words, everything communicates. Our job is to make great communication for clients big and small. |
|
What is great communication? Great communication has substance and style. It’s smart and sexy. It explains, involves and excites. It makes us laugh, cry, think and buy. It sparks action. How important are ideas in your work? Very. When driven by a good idea, communication has real meaning. Without an idea, it’s just decoration. |

What’s with the name ‘Sali Tabacchi’? In Italy, corner shops are called ‘Sali e Tabacchi’ (literally ‘Salts and Tobaccos’). They used to be the only place to purchase, well, salts and tobaccos. Nowadays, they are a one-stop-shop for almost anything you need – but the traditional name stayed. They are casual places where you can often get the best espresso you ever had. Since our studio offers a variety of services at a high level, the name just seemed to fit. How do you pronounce it? Sali Tabacchi rhymes with ‘rally for tacky.’ Ciao! |
